Saunders Comprehensive Veterinary Dictionary 4th Edition PDF
Our feedback suggests this usage has been very extensive and this has been its most successful function. However, this does not preclude its value as a reference dictionary in public libraries and those of non-veterinary tertiary educational institutions. It is also used by administrative and technical assistants at all levels.
We believe that the dictionary’s success has been largely due to the composition of the individual entries. For the most part, they go beyond just defining the word or phrase and give a supplementary description of structure or function. There is a concise description for each disease and the relevance of this is enhanced by the authors’ clinical experience.
Synonyms are included and cross references are used extensively to enhance usability by readers with all levels of prior knowledge, regardless of their first point of entry into the dictionary. Terms from related disciplines are included, not only because of their relevance to some fields of veterinary practice, but also for the benefit of readers in other related professions, those aspiring to be veterinarians and persons with a general interest in animals who want to learn more about animal health and animal disease.
Professor Virginia Studdert and Professor Clive Gay are senior authors of this edition, assisted by Professor Douglas Blood. Collectively they represent over 120 years of experience in clinical veterinary medicine in several countries and they have published extensively in both text and journal publications in this field. This edition also sees an expansion of expert consultant editors from around the world that individually have recognized species or discipline expertise that contributes to the depth of this edition.
